George Lopez is a legend in comedy world, and now he’s teaming up with a legend of the high seas as the official curator of Carnival’s Punchliner’s Comedy Club.
Lopez got his start working Los Angeles comedy clubs in the 70s and 80s, working alongside such notable Latino comics as Cheech Marin, Paul Rodriguez, and the late Freddy Prince. From there, well, he’s done just about everything from star in his own long-running sitcom, “George Lopez” to hosting a late night talk show on TBS, “Lopez Tonight.” What we’re trying to say is, the guy knows a thing or two about the comedy business.
The paring of Lopez and Carnival became official in October, with the ship declaring the comic’s involvement the comedians who will bring their talent to the ship’s passengers. Unlike most comedy club shows which run around 90 minutes and include three acts, the new format Carnival is trying out is five 35-minute shows multiple nights a week. Two early-evening shows will geared on more of the cleaner side, while later show’s will be more blue and adults-only.
In addition to helping select the talent for the ships, Lopez has recorded several greetings that will be shown on the Carnival Miracle’s in-cabin televisions and play before the comedy shows begin.
