We might not be always be consciously aware of it, but our body is a complex structure of layers, working with and holding each piece together. Mexican artist Fernanda Uribe has created a beautiful series of watercolor paintings that display the delicacy our inner workings.
Titled “Abrazos/Dasein,” a combination of Abrazos meaning “hugs” in Spanish and Dasein meaning “existence” in German. As Uribe explains, our body was constructed with the idea of a “ceaseless hug.”
“Through the deconstruction of the self the viewer becomes aware of its interminable layers, its manifestation of existence and temporality.
Our body is constructed in such a way that each organ embraces the other. The heart is surrounded by the lungs which are themselves protected by the ribs and finally by the skin. It is as if our body structure was constructed with the idea of a ceaseless hug.”
Much like our organs and bone structure, Uribe’s paintings are full of complexity and precision that showcase delicate details.
