Think You’ve Seen it All? Try Utah’s Epic Ice Castles

Ice Castles is an organization that builds incredible structures with secret tunnels and caves completely out of ice. Based in Utah, the company has created their magnificent buildings all across North America, and use elaborate lighting set ups to make visitors feel like they are exploring a magical, unearthly land.

Ice Castles began when its founder Brent moved his family to Utah from California, and had a case of cabin fever that inspired him to create an ice rink in his backyard. The first-time ice rink project grew into the first Ice Castle, complete with a 20 ft slide, ice cave, and castle-like tower that reached 20 ft into the sky.

Now, each completed castle is made of 20 million pounds of ice to explore, slide and crawl through. 10 thousand icicles are grown and harvested every day and placed throughout each castle to give the water something to attach to. Eventually, the icicles are absorbed into the ice walls.
