Your Brain is Always Thinking, Even if You Don’t Want to Think

This may be good news for those of you who did a few too many shots the night before and are worried you’ve decimated the last of your brain cells. Your brain is always thinking, even when you try not to think about anything.

Go ahead and try to not think about anything. You can’t do it. Something is going to pop in there. New Scientist explains that our brain constantly has a never-ending hum of electric static going on with neurons communicating back and forth. When you start thinking about something specific, whether it’s a math problem or how the cheese on your sandwich taste delicious, those electric crackles from the neurons coalesce into something more concrete.

So keep that in mind next time you have a bad day and just want to close your eyes and not think about anything, cuz it ain’t happening.
