Models And Parties: What To Expect From New York Fashion Week 2014

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicks-off February 6th in New York City with designers, models, celebrities and the media swarming on Lincoln Center for runway festivities.

Making sense of all the festivities can be a daunting task, and there are certain events (and people!) who are not to be missed. In order to take Fashion Week by the heels (pun intended) we’ve compiled this guide of who, what and where you should set your sights for the winter’s most chic event. And just for the glamour hell of it, a hefty dose of photos from last year’s parties and shows.

Where It’s Going Down

Nicholas K design company starts things off Thursday morning at 9 a.m. at the Pavilion, though some of the week’s biggest events have moved away from the Lincoln hub. Designer Alexander Wang has caused a bit of stir by taking his show out of Manhattan all together, favoring the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard. The move was so upsetting to many that Wang took the liberty of including driving directions to Brooklyn with his invitations as a bit of an extra jab. Considering that last year’s after-party included a performance by Nicki Minaj, the outer-borough commute is probably going to be worth the trip.

Who knows if Kanye West will make the trek out as he did for Wang’s show last year.

While celebrities like Miley Cyrus (pictured above with designer Marc Jacobs) will certainly be attending the shows to scope out the latest designs from hot designers like Prabal Gurung and Rebecca Minkoff. Many will be coming into the city for the parties.

Where’s the party at?

Unless your work in fashion or have some sort of connection, getting into the after-parties or the even more elite, after-after-party can be a difficult task. If you feel like testing your velvet rope luck, here are a few places to check out.

Todd Snyder after party hosted by Zachary Quintoa at Bar Naná, 63 Gansevoort Street. Feb 6th at 10 p.m. The party will feature a live performance by indie group Avan Lava and of course, is INVITE ONLY.

Hardware LDN After Party at Electric Room, 355 W 16th Street on Friday at 10:30 p.m. Hosted by London streetwear brand, Hardware LDN, you can expect to probably see lots of snapbacks and models in high-top sneakers.

Prabal Gurung After Party at Up&Down on 244 W. 14th Street. The party is expected to include performances by hip-hop artists Stalley and Brooklyn-based electro-soul duo Denitia and Sene

The Refinery was around to capture the scene from last year’s opening ceremony parties.
