If you planned on spending your New Year’s Day on the couch in sweats watching those backlogged movies in your Netflix queue, we’ve got some harsh news for you — “Tales From The Crypt: Bordello Of Blood” is no longer available.
That’s right, you waited too long to burn through all those movies you wanted to watch and Netflix has purged a heaping lot of fan favorites. Oh, and Huffington Post reports there’s also some subscription changes that likely won’t sit well with subscribers.
The company is offering several different subscription plans to new subscribers. The $6.99 individual plan offers single stream service, with no DVDs in the mail. There’s talks though about offering a $9.99 subscription that would allow three users to simultaneously stream on the same account. Currently, there’s a two-person streaming plan for $7.99.
The mega movie service was largely responsible for killing off Blockbuster late last year and currently serves 30 million streaming subscribers in the United States. Industry insiders like Quartz’s John McDulling see the new Netflix plans as the company’s way to combat the estimated 10 million people who are watching without a subscription. Some like Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities in L.A. believe that Netflix’s newer prices will shift only a few of its customers into the lower priced tier while forcing others into a higher one.
