When describing the sculptures of Cameron Stalheim, the word “bizarre” comes to mind. Don’t get me wrong, the sculptures are definitely beautiful, but man, are some of them ever weird. The artist blends horror and fantasy, into incredibly detailed sculptures such as a giant 30-foot mermaid, beheaded unicorn, and creepy looking head walking on a pair of hands.
The pieces are made from plastics, steel, and foam with many of the artist’s sculptures appear to be dead or in a state of undead, which adds to their creepy feel. Cameron says of his work, ” I am interested in fantasy, reality and the objectification that happens in between.”
Cameron a recently completed his MFA at Maryland Institute College of Art and has a Kickstarter for his next project “Myth as Object.”
