Detroit’s image today as an American city rooted in handcrafted products might be covered in the rust of bankruptcy, but that’s changing. Underneath that decay something is growing, and it’s happening because of companies like Shinola.
Shinola is an American company, employing Americans to make an American product in one of America’s greatest cities. Shinola is investing itself in manufacturing hand-crafted bikes, watches and leather goods. The products aren’t made on a mass assembly line like in China, but are meant to last from generation to generation. As Shinola puts it they’re “defining American luxury through American quality.”
