One of the most amazing things about New York City is that while the city evolves and neighborhoods change, the past isn’t that far behind. That past isn’t always pretty either, as this amazing photo series points out, highlighting Gotham’s seedy side.
The photos were pulled by photographer and editor Marc A. Hermann from the New York Daily News’ rich photo archives and fused with the city streets’ present day look. The black and white photos of murders, car crashes and fires are seamlessly blended with colored photos of a safer, modern New York.
It’s an incredibly interesting look at how much a neighborhood or city block can change in character over the course of a few decades. That said, as much as things change, things stay the same.
