Not even two weeks of straight twerking and a legion of Twitter drones could guarantee Miley Cyrus the coveted Time Magazine’s Person of the Year title. And humanity continues to dodge the Grim Reaper because of it.
The final sprint came down to Miley, Egyptian general Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with Fattah el-Sisi securing a win with 24 percent of the vote. Granted, this is just the readers poll. Time’s Editors will have the final say on who gets the cover.
The upset that mostly only tweens are upset about started two weeks ago with several hacks from the 4chan community attempting to skew the results. A high school and college student began exploiting a loophole in the voting application that allowed them to cast votes with the accounts random Facebook users without their consent. Yes, you may have voted for Miley and not even know it! Think about that bombshell for a second.
Okay…
There was also a hack from several other members of the 4chan community to sweep the poll for NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden. Snowden was in the lead with 46 percent on November 26, but that soon came to an end after programmers behind the poll caught on. No word yet, if the NSA has sent drones to eliminate the 4chan Snowden supporters.
The cover with Time’s Person of the Year is expected to roll out Dec 11.
