Tom Hardy is will to be switching from the Bane mask to a pair of rhinestone sunglasses. The English actor has agreed to portray rock icon Elton John in the upcoming biopic “Rocketman” according to TheWrap.

The search to find a suitable actor to fill the role of the iconic musician has been going on for some time and Tom Hardy seems like a great choice. The actor is emerging as one of the standout talents of his generation and while he normally goes for more tough guy roles (“Warrior, “Bronson”, “Lawless”) the role of Elton John should offer an interesting side of his acting fans haven’t seen before.

“Tom is a stellar talent who will add extraordinary depth and nuance in bringing Elton’s story to life,” said producer Steve Hamilton Shaw. “We are excited to have such a gifted actor on board, and equally excited to be in the hands of Peter Schlessel (Focus CEO Peter Schlessel) and the entire Focus Features team.”

Director Michael Gracey will be directing and the film is slated to start shooting in the fall of 2014. Tom’s still got the “Mad Max” re-boot and “Child 44” to release before belting out any Elton jams.
